Connect with Kindness
Sonic Healthcare Australia
Healthcare environments amplify stress. Patients arrive anxious. Staff carry emotional weight all day.
Through collaboration, we reframed the campaign brief as a behavioural opportunity — a chance to shift tone across the environment itself. Using the familiar codes of medical warning signage, we inverted caution into playful colour and humour, turning high-traffic spaces into cues for kindness. Even the spreading “virus” became a smiling symbol of positivity.

Sonic approached the project as a communications campaign focused on kindness. Through collaboration, it became clear the opportunity was bigger: a small, intentional shift in tone could influence how people feel and interact across the entire environment. What began as messaging revealed potential for meaningful behavioural change.

From campaign to culture
We focused on kindness as an innate strength already present within the organisation — not a fictional hero narrative, but a real human quality.
The campaign surfaced everyday “superpowers”: warmth, calm, empathy, humour. Rather than introducing new values, the system gave visibility and language to behaviours staff were already practising, turning them into something shared and celebrated.

The system extended across signage, tools and digital touchpoints, embedding kindness into daily routines. Designed to live actively inside real environments, it evolved from campaign into culture.
Design extended across physical and digital touchpoints — signage, wearables, screens, and internal prompts — embedding kindness into daily rituals.
The visual language was confident and uplifting, but never forced. It worked quietly inside real environments, supporting interaction rather than competing with it. The system was built to scale, allowing the campaign to move from communication into culture.

Behaviour that lasts
What began as a campaign quickly evolved into a broader behavioural shift. Staff embraced it, leaders amplified it, and kindness became a visible part of Sonic’s everyday culture.
Now embedded into onboarding, recognition programs, and internal communications, the work continues to shape how the organisation connects with patients and each other. A simple design intervention became a lasting cultural layer.
